Responsive Coding

Responsive coding involves designing and coding websites to automatically adjust their layout and appearance for different screen sizes and devices, like desktop computers, laptops, and mobile phones.

Flexbox

Flexbox, short for "Flexible Box Layout," is a CSS layout model that provides a more efficient way to design and arrange elements within a container, enabling responsive and dynamic layouts without resorting to complex float or positioning techniques.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the Break Into Tech Program with Get Hired all about?

Put simply, Break Into Tech is an online job training program that allows you to train for one (or both) of two entry level positions in tech: front end developer or UI/UX designer.

The key things to know about the program is that it's self-paced, BOTH career tracks are included, so you don't have to know which path you want to take ahead of time, and you will be supported by our instructors, mentors, career coaches, and a global community of fellow students at every step.

Once you complete the skill-building portion of the program and are "job ready" according to our assessment, you'll move onto the Get Hired part of the program.

The Get Hired program adds structure and accountability to your job search with 5 additional classes designed specifically to optimize your process. The classes cover optimizing your resume, LinkedIn, and portfolio, how to find jobs and the proven method we coach all our students in on how to apply for jobs such that you increase your chances of getting interviewed by 5X, how to nail the interview, and pass ANY technical test, plus more!

But even more importantly, in the Get Hired program we turn the support up even more: in addition to 1-on-1 career coaching, you'll participate in weekly group check-ins with your job search cohort, do mock interview and technical test practice, get tons of peer support, and so much more!

But don't take it from us, this is what Skillcrush alums have to say about their experiences in Break Into Tech + Get Hired program:

Jeni Williams, who now works as a Frontend Engineer at Walmart Global:

"The Get Hired track provided amazing guidance, particularly as a career changer. The units helped me convert my existing resume and LinkedIn profile to one that looked like I belonged in the software industry. In fact, Skillcrush's advice was so effective that recruiters from major companies reached out to me."

Caitlin Marshall, who now works as a Web Developer at Owl's Head Solutions:

"Their career support is AWESOME: the classes on job readiness, and the personalized support during your job search, are amazing. Like there is a whole class just on this! And during the class you get individual feedback on your resume, your LinkedIn, interview prep, mock interviews, negotiation techniques, weekly check-ins with career counselors and other students - honestly this aspect alone could be worth the price of admission."

I'm brand new to tech. Is this program right for me?

This program is perfect for you, in fact it’s MADE for you!

You’ll learn the most marketable tech skills AND you’ll receive 8 additional classes, plus a ton of coaching, with the Get Hired program to optimize your job search.

But again, the best people to weigh in on this question are your fellow Skillcrushers who have this say:

Tyler King, a Front End Development student:

"This program is perfect for self-paced and beginner friendly in every way. The instructors are always there to help and also we have a slack community that includes all students and whenever we get stuck we all assist each other."

Patricia, a Front End Development student:

"I am halfway through Skillcrush's Break Into Tech course and it is one of the best courses I have done. This is my first study in tech and design. Everything is presented in a very encouraging way. I finish each video and think 'yes, I can do it'. The teaching style really appeals to me. There are so many men in tech, it is a breath of fresh air to be learning from Skillcrush. Highly recommended. "

Gregory Glenn Smith Jr., a Front End Development student:

"Learning new skills can be challenging, especially skills in an area you know nothing about. The team over at Skillcrush puts students' minds at ease and encourages them to take the first step!"

Caitlin Marshall, who now works as a Web Developer at Owl's Head Solutions:

"For me, what really set Skillcrush apart was: they're truly beginner friendly: this means it's okay to know NOTHING about code on day one, and still make meaningful progress. It also means they walk you through setting up local development environments and publishing real websites on the real internet. I couldn't quite get those things going in my previous courses at other places, but Skillcrush had just the right mix of super clear instruction, encouragement, and helpful teachers...and then down the line, I had more confidence to tackle new things on my own."

I don't know WHAT role I want to train for, what do I do?

So, you're wanting to make a career change, but you don't know which job you should choose to train for?

That's actually NO PROBLEM. No really!

We designed the Break Into Tech program so that when you enroll you get access to BOTH the Front End Developer AND UI/UX Designer career tracks.

Which means you literally don't need to decide which job you want before you get started. Instead, you can try each one out and work with a mentor to decide what makes the most sense for you!

Will you help with my resume/portfolio?

Of course! Your resume is SO important for your job search that it's a core part of the Get Hired program. You'll work 1-on-1 with a career coach to make sure it's in tip-top shape.

And building an awesome portfolio is a cornerstone of our skill-training curriculum, in fact, we won't let you graduate the program until you've gotten your portfolio live and on the internet, since that's a cornerstone of our "job readiness" assessment.

Will I really be able to land a job with this program?

Yes, you really will be able to land a job! We feel incredibly confident about this because we've helped so many students do it.

Not only will you learn THE job searching skills you need to know in your classes, you’ll also meet regularly with your career coaches for individual guidance. Plus, you’ll get tons of peer support from your group career Q&As with your cohort, where you’ll learn from one another and cheer each other on. You’ll never feel alone in your job search, and you’ll be ready to confidently go after—and land—your new job in tech.

How quickly will I land a job?

If you’re still working through your Career Track of classes, you’ll want to continue to focus on that first. Most students take 4-5 months to complete their Career Track, working 1-2 hours per day. If you have more time to devote to your courses you can work faster, but we recommend estimating at least 4 months to allow plenty of time for skill retention and milestone projects.

In the Get Hired Track, you'll work with your career coach over the course of 6 months, but we often see students starting to land jobs in as little as 6-8 weeks.

Ok, ok, but how much money can I realistically make with no prior experience in tech?

Great question! The salaries of our students vary from $55,000 all the way up to $150k, so truly, spectacular things happen!
